Climate Change

Climate change affects us all, therefore, as a responsible company, Merdeka is committed to reducing the impact of our activities to climate change and maintain the natural resources we use. Merdeka continues to monitor various risks related to climate change and is actively involved in several climate change programs.

In 2021, Merdeka announced its Net Zero Emissions commitment after making comparisons with other similar companies, Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), as well as our initial estimates of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

Merdeka is committed to be involved in selected climate change initiatives, seeking and implementing energy efficiency innovations or alternative energy, and conducting carbon offsetting programs to achieve emission targets scope 1 and 2, namely:

  1. GHG emission reduction of 29% by 2030 compared to baseline data in 2021.
  2. Net Zero Emissions by 2050.

In 2021, the Merdeka Project Division has been actively assessing the feasibility of installing solar panels at the Wetar Copper Mine. The assessment will be investigated further during 2022.
