Composting Kitchen Waste at Wetar Copper Mine

In addition to fertilizing the soil, composting kitchen waste at the Wetar Copper Mine is in line with the zero-waste plan and reduces greenhouse gas. First of all, the kitchen waste is chopped, dried, aerated, and mixed with activator bacteria and leaf debris; then stored under anaerobic conditions for 60 days, and after that, it’s ready to use. During the first quarter of 2022, approximately 3 tons of kitchen waste were converted into 1.5 tons of compost, equal to reducing approximately 7.5 tons of CO2(e) GHG emissions.
