Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the delivery of realistic and reliable guidance and designs to ensure stability of excavations in mining plans through engineering design and analysis, supplemented by a robust QAQC program.
- Establish safe work methods and procedures for all members of the geotechnical section, for the pursuit of continuous improvement opportunities of mine operations and for the management of the geotechnical workforce and budget.
- Collaborate with mine site and other department to collect data requirement to support the geotechnical study.
- Conduct the Peers review for mine study design and planning to ensure the quality of mine study deliverables.
- Generate Geotech monthly report for use in company reporting.
- Assist the development of systems, processes and practices for the geotechnical engineering include develop the standard procedure and documentation.
- Develop Company Ground Control Management Plan and ensure that Mine Operations are adhering to the guidance and requirements outlined in it.
- Perform inspections of mine workings as well as utilize information provided by the instrumentation systems to proactively assess ground control risk and ensure ground support systems are adequate to mitigate geotechnical risk to workers.
- Contribute to the mine planning process by conducting analysis and providing recommendations pertaining to stope stability by using numerical modelling techniques and empirical design charts.
- Perform quality control audits of ground support materials and installations, including assessments such as pull tests, shotcrete strength tests, etc., to verify effectiveness of ground support.
- Address geotechnical issues and documented in the ground control logbook as appropriate. Review of other engineering prints to ensure geotechnical risk/hazards are identified and ground support outlined is appropriate for the local ground conditions.
- Participate in mine study to provide geotechnical input; specifically advise on geotechnical risk considerations and mitigation measures.
- Assist in providing geotechnical hazard identification training to workforce.
- Support communication initiatives to inform the workforce of geotechnical activities. Participate in other geotechnical-related tasks.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent
- Have a minimum of 5 years working in rock mechanics or at an underground mining operation or open pit operation
- A minimum two (2) years’ experience in a Geotechnical supervisory role.
- Experience with Vulcan/Deswik and Rocscience software packages.
- Demonstrated experience in Geotechnical open pit and/or underground ground support.
- Experience with risk assessment of Geotechnical hazards.
- Proven experience in Geotechnical design (wedge, planar and rotational analyses for slopes and/or stress modelling, design chart application for underground design).
- Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organization-wide impacts.
- Proven organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in block caving mining method is preferred.
