From Training to Achievement: Merdeka’s Celebration of Human Rights Day 2024

As part of its commitment to respecting human rights as outlined in the Merdeka Human Rights Policy, Merdeka celebrated Human Rights Day on December 10, 2024, through a series of internal activities and participation in external events supporting human rights in business.

The series of activities began in late September 2024 with human rights training for security personnel and the External Affairs team at the Pani Gold Project in Gorontalo. This was followed by training for security personnel at PT Bumi Suksesindo, which manages the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine in Banyuwangi, in mid-November 2024. Conducted by Merdeka’s Sustainability team, the training aimed to socialize the Merdeka Human Rights Policy and foster a culture of respect for human rights within the company’s operations.

The training series concluded in early December at PT Merdeka Tsingshan Indonesia (MTI) in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, and PT Sulawesi Cahaya Mineral (SCM) in Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi. Human rights training at MTI focused on security personnel, while at SCM, it included security personnel, External Affairs staff, and contractor employees. This initiative underscores Merdeka’s commitment to respecting human rights, not only for its internal workforce but also parties in its supply chain.

On Human Rights Day, Merdeka representatives attended the event “Human Rights Day: The Launch of Study of the 2023 Sustainability Reports of Publicly Listed Companies in Indonesia”. Organized by the Foundation for International Human Rights Reporting Standards (FIHRRST) with support from Belgian Government, The event aimed to promote the integration of human rights aspects into sustainability reports of companies in Indonesia.
