PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk has achieved a prestigious Sapphire ranking in the 2024 Sustainable Business Integrity Index. The award was presented by Transparency International Indonesia (TII) in collaboration with Tempo Data Science during a ceremony held at the Salihara Art Center on December 10, 2024.
TII is one of the chapters of Transparency International, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that fights corruption by promoting transparency and accountability in government institutions, political parties, businesses, and civil society. Meanwhile, Tempo Data is part of the Tempo Group, one of Indonesia’s leading independent media outlets.
The index evaluated 100 selected companies from 934 entities listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and 5 major state-owned enterprises, categorizing them into Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald tiers.
Merdeka achieved a total score of 68.42, with component scores in anti-corruption (68.75), business and human rights (70), and environmental sustainability (64.29). This achievement underscores Merdeka’s commitment to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its long-term business strategy.
At the award ceremony, Tom Malik, Head of Corporate Communication at PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk, participated as a panelist in the discussion, “ESG: A Key Pillar for Sustainable Business.” The session, moderated by Tempo Deputy Chief Editor Bagja Hidayat, featured four other prominent speakers.
“For Merdeka, implementing ESG is not a choice—it’s a responsibility. We aim not only to fulfill CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) obligations but also to meet external expectations through robust ESG practices,” Tom stated. “Our commitment to sustainable development is demonstrated through annual transparency in our Sustainability Report, validated by external parties.”
