Merdeka Earns ‘B’ Score in CDP Climate Disclosure 2024

PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk hasreceived a ‘B’ score from CDP for its 2024 Climate Change disclosure, marking an important milestone in the company’s sustainability journey. This is Merdeka’s first time participating in CDP’s climate reporting, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and responsible environmental management.

CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) is a globally recognized non-profit organization that provides a platform for companies, cities, states and regions to report on their climate, deforestation, and water security impacts. It operates the world’s most comprehensive environmental database and is regarded as the gold standard for climate-related reporting. CDP scores play a crucial role in guiding investment and procurement decisions towards a low-carbon, sustainable economy. Globally, two-thirds of market capitalization, including 85% of the S&P 500 and 93% of the FTSE 100, disclose environmental data through CDP.

The CDP scoring system consists of eight levels, from A to D-. The ‘B’ rating achieved by Merdeka reflects the company’s proactive approach to managing climate risks and opportunities, as well as its ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

CDP’s climate disclosure framework evaluates companies based on various criteria, including the identification of climate-related risks and opportunities, Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions, corporate governance related to climate strategy, emission reduction initiatives, target setting, value chain engagement, and overall environmental policies. Companies that score well in CDP’s framework demonstrate strong environmental leadership and attract increased confidence from investors, stakeholders, and global supply chains committed to sustainability.

Merdeka’s participation in CDP aligns with its broader sustainability goals, reinforcing its dedication to international environmental standards and corporate responsibility. As climate change concerns intensify, businesses worldwide are being urged to enhance transparency and accelerate decarbonization efforts. By achieving a ‘B’ score in its first CDP disclosure assessment, Merdeka has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its climate governance and environmental stewardship.
