Merdeka Achieves PRISMA Award from Minister of Human Rights
PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk has reaffirmed its commitment to human rights-respectful business practices. The company received the PRISMA Award Certificate from Indonesia’s Minister of Human Rights, Natalius Pigai, after achieving a score of 81 in the Business and Human Righst Risk Assessment (PRISMA), placing it in the Green Category, which signifies a high level of compliance. The certificate was accepted by Bahtiar Manurung, Merdeka’s ESG & Climate Change Manager.
PRISMA is a digital platform developed by the Ministry of Human Rights that enables companies to conduct self-assessments across key area such as human rights impacts and policies, grievance mechanisms, supply chain management, labor, working conditions, trade unions, non-discrimination, privacy, environment, land and indigenous communities, and corporate social responsibility. The Ministry then evaluates these self-assessments to provide an official score.
The award presented during the event “Building a Human Rights Culture for Business Entities in Indonesia”, organized by the Ministry’s Directorate of Human Rights Compliance for Communities, Civil Society, and Business, on September 19, 2025, at The Westin Hotel, South Jakarta. Alongside Merdeka, seven other companies—both state-owned and private—also received Green Category awards.
Minister Natalius Pigai emphasized that the PRISMA award is part of the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 60 of 2023 on the National Strategy on Business and Human Rights (Stranas BHAM), which has been in force since September 2023. This regulation serves as a strategic guideline for ministries, institutions, and businesses to integrate the protection, respect, and remedy of human rights into their activities.
The government is currently preparing a successor regulation to Presidential Regulation 60/2023, with a with a stronger focus on mandatory human rights due diligence for businesses. While this requirement remains voluntary for now, it is targeted to become mandatory by 2007 or 2028.
As part of this transition, the Ministry of Human Rights has committed to expanding business and human rights training programs, strengthening companies’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in upholding human rights. This initiative is expected to foster a more responsible and sustainable business culture in Indonesia.
