BSI Distributes Food Aid Packages to Flood-Affected Residents in Banyuwangi

PT Bumi Suksesindo (BSI), a subsidiary of PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk that operates the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine, provided assistance to residents affected by flooding in Banyuwangi District (urban area). A total of 200 food aid packages were handed over to Banyuwangi District Head, Andik Basuki, at the district office on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The packages consist of rice, cooking oil, sugar, and canned sardines with relatively long shelf lives. The aid is being distributed to residents in several flood-affected areas.

According to the District Head, several areas frequently experience flooding during periods of high rainfall, including Pakis, Sobo, Kampung Mandar, and Kampung Melayu. As of April 2026, heavy rainfall continues to occur in Banyuwangi. “We would like to express our appreciation to BSI for its concern, not only for communities around the mining area but also for residents of Banyuwangi District,” he said.

BSI Community Development Supervisor, Syahrul Wahidah, stated that disaster relief assistance is part of the company’s Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM). “This assistance falls under the socio-cultural pillar. We collaborate with various stakeholders to implement PPM programs,” she said.

BSI’s PPM is carried out through a range of planned initiatives covering eight pillars: education, health, real income improvement, economic independence, socio-cultural development, environment, community institutions, and infrastructure.

Syahrul added that BSI’s involvement in disaster response extends beyond food aid distribution. The company has also deployed humanitarian missions to several disaster locations, including the Pidie earthquake, Aceh (2016), Alasmalang flood, Banyuwangi (2018), Lombok earthquake (2018), Palu earthquake (2018), Banten tsunami (2018), Malang and Lumajang earthquakes (2021), and the Mount Semeru eruption in Lumajang (2021).
