Compost from Tree Waste at the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine
At the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine, PT Bumi Suksesindo reuses felling waste and tree trimmings to make compost. Clearing land through felling trees to make room for mining operations has been carried out previously under the applicable permit. All parts of the felled tree, from stems, twigs, and leaves, are chopped with a chopping machine. The result is in the form of small pieces, mixed with a bio-activator to speed up the composting process using an anaerob method that uses microorganisms. The compost will be used to support land reclamation in the mining operation area. This composting also supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. During the second quarter of 2022, around 7 tons of wood waste have been converted into ± 4.5 tons of compost, equivalent to reducing ± 18 tons of CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.
