Merdeka Group Donates for Sumatra Flood Victims through BAZNAS

Flash floods and landslides have affected Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since late November 2025. Thousands of homes and public facilities were damaged, access routes were cut off, and economic activities came to a halt. As of mid-December 2025, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported more than 1,000 fatalities, hundreds of missing persons, and tens of thousands of displaced residents.

In response, Merdeka Group raised funds through its Merdeka Berbagi: Ulurkan Tangan, Satukan Harapan! program in collaboration with the National Alms Agency (BAZNAS) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), supporting the Ministry’s ESDM Disaster Response Program. The donation was contributed by PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk as the parent company, its subsidiaries, and participating employees, totaling Rp977,106,674. In addition to financial aid, Merdeka Group delivered relief supplies to evacuation sites, including clothing, baby diapers and essentials, blankets, and prayer mats.

The donation was symbolically handed over on 12 December 2025 at Merdeka’s Head Office in Jakarta. The event was attended by PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk’s Head of Corporate Communications Tom Malik and BAZNAS RI’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Division Budi Setiawan. All funds are managed and distributed by BAZNAS RI.

BAZNAS RI’s Director of Fundraising, Rizaludin Kurniawan, said the contribution came not only from the company but also from employee participation, reflecting private-sector support and solidarity in responding to a disaster with wide-ranging impacts that requires medium- to long-term recovery efforts.

Albert Saputro, President Director of PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk, said the company has deployed its Emergency Response Team (ERT) since early December 2025 to South Tapanuli, one of the flood-affected areas in Sumatra.
