Indonesia’s mining sector is still dominated by male workers. Since 2020, Merdeka has held a Green Operator, a program to recruit women workers from communities around the mine, both at the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine in Banyuwangi and the Wetar Copper Mine on Wetar Island, Southwest Maluku.
