PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk is strongly committed to maintaining occupational health and safety (OHS) for all employees and other stakeholders. This commitment is demonstrated through the implementation of an ISO 45001:2018-certified Health and Safety Management System, in compliance with regulations such as the Mineral Mining Safety Management System (SMKP Minerba) and Government Regulation No. 50 of 2012 on Occupational Health and Safety Management System
Our approach to OHS management is based on the principle of preventing workplace accidents and illnesses by fostering a safe and healthy work environment. To support this, we have developed an OHS Policy that applies to all business entities, employees, contractors, and other stakeholders. The implementation guidelines for this policy are outlined in the OHS Management System Manual, ensuring proper OHS practices across all Merdeka operations and projects.
Risk management at Merdeka involves hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of mitigation measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level. This process is supported by Risk and Opportunity Management policies and standards that regulate routine risk assessments. Additionally, Merdeka has an Incident Management Standard in place to ensure consistent and comprehensive handling of incidents, as well as to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As part of its safety culture, we have established OHS Committees at each operation and project, responsible for reporting OHS performance and setting safety strategies.
The company also runs the TAHAN program (Unsafe, Stop, Report, Secure), which encourages workers to stop risky activities and report hazardous conditions. This program also aims to enhance positive communication among workers, promote safety actions, and provide recognition to individuals contributing to workplace safety.
In terms of health, Merdeka provides healthcare facilities, including clinic facilities staffed with professional doctor teams and paramedics, as well as facilities such as laboratories and adequate pharmacies at each operational site. Routine health checks are conducted, and during the pandemic, strict COVID-19 control measures were adopted. Fit-for-work programs and healthy lifestyle initiatives are also part of the company’s efforts to maintain the physical and mental well-being of employees.
Through its comprehensive and proactive approach, we continue to strive to enhance OHS standards and ensure the safety and well-being of its entire workforce, in line with its safety motto: Everyone Safe, Always.
